Sintered bearings.
Sintered bearings are characterized by being self-lubricating and maintenance-free, and are designed for rotating applications with high permissible sliding velocities.
01The principle
The lubricant lives inside the bearing.
A sintered bearing is not solid metal. Pressed and sintered bronze keeps an interconnected pore structure, and that structure is filled with oil. As the shaft turns and the bearing warms, oil is drawn to the sliding surface; when it stops, capillary action pulls the oil back in.
That is why these bearings are described as self-lubricating and maintenance-free, and why they tolerate high sliding velocities in rotating applications.

01Why it works
What this gives an engineer.
- Self-lubricating — oil is held in the pore structure and drawn to the sliding surface in operation
- Maintenance-free in service, with no re-lubrication schedule to manage
- High permissible sliding velocities in rotating applications
- Standard programme of 292 articles from Ø2 mm to Ø100 mm bore
- Custom sizes and materials pressed to drawing
02Where it ends up
Typical applications.
- Electric motors and fans
- Pumps and gearboxes
- Office and household machines
- Hand-held power tools
- General rotating machinery
Typical uses for this component type. Callo does not publish a customer list, and none is implied here.
03Sizing
Load, speed and the P/V graph.
This is a graph that gives you an approximately specified max load for our standard bearings. Specified load is load/(diameter x length). The graph is for running temp of 80° C and lifetime of 5000-6000 h.
Callo publishes the graph itself to customers. Rather than reproduce approximate numbers here, ask for the current version with your duty cycle — running temperature and expected life move the answer.
Reference conditions
- Specified load
- load / (diameter × length)
- Running temperature
- 80 °C
- Lifetime basis
- 5 000–6 000 h
This is an instruction how to assembly the bearings to get best result. Mounting matters: a sintered bearing is pressed into its housing, and the bore closes as it goes in. Callo publishes an assembly instruction and type drawings as part of the product documentation.
Engineering support
Need a size that is not in the programme?
Callo also makes bearings in other materials, such as iron and bronze, outside the standard list. Send the dimensions and the duty and ask whether a tool already exists.
